As you can imagine, businesses priorities are changing day by day as the coronavirus pandemic continues to develop.
Companies are facing a total economic shift and the primary focus will now be on navigating the next 3-6 months. This will include restructuring and cost cutting an reconsidering raising of funds.
A lot of recruitment processes are being frozen for now and companies are avoiding making new offers whilst they plan for the future. Some companies have been hiring quite rapidly, but you will now see these campaigns almost come to a halt, while businesses figure out how to onboard new hires remotely.
Some companies are still choosing to press on through the pandemic and will continue to recruit, Many are conducting interviews via video conferencing programs such as Zoom or Skype. This is however, a small number of companies, and a lot of others will delay finalising any offers or will delay start dates until they have a plan in place.
A lot of job postings will remain live on job boards, however they will not make any decisions on shortlisting in the short term, so don’t be surprised if you don’t hear back from many companies straight away.
Whilst we go through this time of uncertainty, its best to not send off a lot of applications in the comping weeks, however we have come up with some tips to help jobseekers remain productive and how you can be most effective.
1. Look out for jobs being posted
Some companies will still be going through with their recruitment campaigns. We will notify you of any roles that become available during this time.
2. Refine your CV
Now is a great time to start looking at your CV and seeing if you are representing yourself in the best way possible. Have you written down all of your major achievements? Does your CV represent the kind of role that you are looking for? We are more than happy to offer you a free CV review and help you fine tune it, if you email us at hello@swipsearch.co . The whole idea, is to be ready when the market opens up again. A lot of sectors move very fast, particularly tech businesses, so be sure to be ahead of the game.
3. Research Companies that Excite you
Explore the latest data and information on London startups via many websites online. We’re in the process of compiling data on startups (including funding information, founder details, current vacancies), and we will inform you when this is ready to be rolled out. Pay extra attention to companies that have received funding recently, or those that are building products that are of great use during a time like this (e.g remote working tools, e-learning tools, delivery services). These companies will be more likely to recruit sooner than others.
Please do let us know if there is anything we can do to help you. We’re all working remotely at SwipSearch, but we continue to work out the best way to help you. You can email us at hello@swipsearch.co and someone will get back to you.
In the meantime. Stay safe!
